Jaime Clark-Soles, Bible Study Teacher - Gospel of John |
Rev. Dr. Jaime Clark-Soles has served as Assistant Professor of New Testament at Perkins School of Theology, Southern Methodist University, since 2001. She received her B.A. from Stetson University, where she studied Philosophy and Russian Studies. She received her M.Div. from Yale Divinity School and her Ph.D. from Yale University.
Jaime is much in demand as an engaging presenter and teacher. Her particular area of expertise is the Gospel of John. She is the author of Scripture Cannot Be Broken: The Social Function of the Use of Scripture in the Fourth Gospel (E.J. Brill, 2003). In that study, she inquires after the use and authority of scripture evinced among sectarian groups, including the first-century Qumran community and the 20th century Branch Davidians under the leadership of David Koresh, in order to illuminate the community of the Fourth Gospel.
Presently, she is writing a book which addresses views of death and afterlife in the New Testament, a project which allows her to combine her scholarly and pastoral interests. As an ordained American Baptist minister since 1996, Rev. Clark-Soles has served in both parish and hospice settings. She is a member of CityChurch Dallas. She is married to Thad Clark-Soles and they have two children, Chloe and Caleb.
Jaime is a member of the Steering Committee of the SBL group, Jesus, John and History. She received a Louisville Institute Christian Faith and Life Sabbatical Grant for 2004-2005, and a Catholic Biblical Association Post-Doctoral Fellowship in 2004.
