Workshop Description:
The Social Security Administration is the Nation’s primary income security agency. It provides Social Security and Supplemental Security Income benefits to the most vulnerable members of our society – the young, the elderly, and the disabled. In 2005, almost 48 million Americans received approximately $509 billion in Social Security benefits.
This workshop will focus on the Medicare prescription drug subsidy plan. In addition to changes in the Medicare Modernization Act, which became effective in January 2006, providing prescription drug benefits to seniors and persons with disabilities who have Medicare coverage. This workshop will increase participants knowledge about other Social Security programs that impact the lives of church/ministry leaders and parishioners.

Presenter:
Martha E. Seabrooks, MSW, has worked at the Social Security Administration (SSA) for over 25 years. She is and has been a Social Worker for over 20 years. At the present time she is a Social Insurance Specialist for the Office of Communication and finds herself more often then not working with one of the hundreds of organizations with which she is affiliated. She is very versed on the programs that will affect every person in every walk of life at sometime in their life. As she travels through the country, her position is “if you know, tell them,” and that’s exactly what she does. She promotes the benefit and processing information at conferences, workshops and other group meetings. This year is no different. Her focus is on the new Medicare Prescription Drug Coverage which stems from the Medicare Modernization Act of 2003.
Mrs. Seabrooks received her MSW degree from the University of Maryland School of Social Work and a degree from the USDA Graduate School Executive Leadership Program. She is a member of numerous organizations.
